Texnikoi Outstanding Alumni Award

Texnikoi is an organization of undergraduate students in the College of Engineering that recognizes qualities of leadership, integrity and personality as exemplified by active participation and leadership in extracurricular activities. Each year the active membership of Texnikoi selects one of the younger alumni of the College of Engineering as a recipient of the Texnikoi Outstanding Alumni Award. This award is based upon their achievements since graduation, evaluated in light of the objectives of Texnikoi.

Gary O. Spitznogle

As vice president of regulatory & finance for AEP Ohio, Gary Spitznogle is responsible for providing organizational leadership on AEP Ohio's financial and regulatory strategic plans. He provides technical direction on regulatory policy, state filing requirements, retail electric tariffs and represents AEP Ohio before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. 

Spitznogle has more than 17 years of experience in several positions with AEP Ohio and AEP Service Corporation. Previously he served as director - New Technology Development and Policy Support, where he focused on providing engineering and geo-sequestration support for CO2 capture and storage development, research and development for generation and environmental controls technologies, and technical guidance on state and federal public policy issues pertaining to power generation and CO2 emissions reduction. From 2011-2013, he also served as co-chairman for the Coal Utilization Research Council Technical Subcommittee, advising the Department of Energy, universities and vendors on research priorities.

He currently participates on the Carnegie Mellon University Electric Industry Center Advisory Committee and is a contributor with the National Coal Council and World Resources Institute. Spitznogle is also AEP’s executive co-sponsor for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk and an active big brother with Big Brother Big Sisters.

Recognized for his technical and community contributions, he received the AEP Key Contributor Award (2009 and 2010), the Ohio Award for Excellence Governor's Award (2001) and the AEP Silver Star (2000) for his work promoting science and engineering to elementary school students.

Spitznogle earned a bachelor’s in chemical engineering (’98) with an environmental option from The Ohio State University and completed the AEP/OSU Strategic Leadership Program in 2003.
